Natural seawater pool on Tenerife’s west coast near Los Gigantes (Santiago del Teide), sheltered by a protective wall yet still open to Atlantic influence. A scenic volcanic charco for a coastal swim when seas are calm — always respect swell warnings and any local access closures in force. Dramatic cliffs frame the west-coast setting.
Sea Safety
IMPORTANT: The protective wall does NOT make Charco de Isla Cangrejo safe during heavy Atlantic swell. Waves can overtop the wall suddenly and sweep people into open sea and onto rocks below.
Authorities have closed and cordoned this site during coastal alerts; fatal incidents have occurred when people entered despite fences and warning signs. Obey all closures, multilingual danger signs and police instructions. Never treat this as a permanently protected swimming pool. TES does not report live sea conditions.
